Marcus Allen: My love for choral music and beautiful spaces, specifically churches started at an early age. Seeing the way one note, if sang at the right moment could transform someone’s entire life. Not only aurally, but through light, sound, and touch. The feeling sacred music gave me - was almost tangible.
I am drawn the idea of sacred music being performed in spaces other than where they originated because of the unpredictability in our surroundings. The wind blows this way, everyone has to kind of deal with that. The earth feels still, so let us be still with it. This tangible energy and synergy between nature, architecture and city brings life and movement to the music. This helps to remind us that every moment, no matter where we are, or what we believe or don't, is sacred only because we are there in that moment.
While our approach brings sacred music into new and unexpected spaces, my colleagues and I remain firmly rooted in our classical training and deep experience. Our goal is to preserve a deep reverence for the craft, ensuring each performance honors its origins, while at the same time allowing everyone—regardless of background or belief—to experience and enjoy these works as we do.
